Can't pull a dimension from curtain wall location line

I have a project with many curtain walls.  In some instances of the same curtain wall family, I can dimension to the location line in plan view, but in others I can't.  I can see the location line when I hover over it (see image 1), and when I select the curtain wall the location line shows up (image 2).  But as soon as I use the dimension tool, I can no longer select or see the location line while placing dimensions.  The measure tool will also select the location line (see image 3).  There's even an place in the project where two of these curtain wall instances are adjacent, on the same level, have the same top/bottom constraints, etc.  Selecting these two at the same time, the only differences in the properties are area, length, edited by and ifcGUID, none of which seem to have any connection to the issue.  The same issue has occurred in sections or elevations, although the same curtain wall instances don't necessarily behave the same way in all views.  At least some of these curtain walls that I can't dimension to in plan, I can in section for example.  There doesn't appear to be anything hidden in the walls in question, and the same issue occurs when reveal hidden is turned on.  Any ideas on why this is happening?  There are some workarounds, but they would involve drafting over the top of model elements, which will take a lot of time over the course of the project, and create a lot of room for error.

UPDATE:  Continuing to play around with this, I found the culprit was depth clipping.  For whatever reason, with depth clipping on (either with or without line) those particular curtain walls were having this issue.  Change to no clip and it works as expected.  I haven't ever really messed with this, so I didn't think to try it until realizing that settings were different for various view templates in the project.  Why curtain walls with the same top and bottom constraints would would behave differently in the same view if depth clipping is the problem doesn't make much sense, but at least it's resolved.
