Can't move section line

Good evning,

I've been having this problem for a while and it always happens when I try to move the section line I've created because it cuts elements I don't want to be cut and I want to show different parts. What can I do to solve it? I've also tried sliding the blue arrows, it onle moves vertically but not horizontally.

Thanks in advance

from your screenshots, it is a little confusing to determine what the issue is.

section markers in revit can be created, split and adjusted to show the contents of the revit model within the blue dashed visibility region when you select the section marker.

if the section is not displaying what you want, try recreating it first.  then, try adjusting the dashed linework that represents the visible region of the revit model.

hope this helps.

Select your section line and note the parameter settings within the Extents section of the Properties window. In order for you to have control over the width of the section view, it must be cropped. In order for you to have control over the depth of the section view, Depth Clipping must be turned on.

Thank you for your response, I'm attaching images in which I'm ponting what I meant.

I just stopped trying to move it and kept working on other parts of the project.

Does the behaviour change if you turn off the view template associated with that section?

No, it doesn't change, even when I deactivate the template

I just tried that, no change. drops error message. Should I erase the view and then re-create it again?

Try duplicate view with detailing and delete original. See if you can move the new view. If not, then I would draw a new one.

I had to delete it and create a new one.

Thanks for your aid. Anyways, is it something related ot the software or the version?

I fixed it by removing the split section on the master section (don't know what to call the view the dependents come from, so i called it master here).

Anyways, removing the split segment on the master fixed my issue

I think "Parent View" would have popped into my head, but Master View works too.

I'm responding to this old thread because I want to do this too, and saying you have to recreate the section does not equal "solved" for me. A lot of work has gone into this section and I don't want to throw it away. Is there really no way to move a section with splits? There are shape handles, why don't they work? And how would you "remove the split segment on the master" anyway?

I have noticed this very recently with my model and I seem to have been able to fix this by having my scope box attach to none in the property box. It seems like you can't move it if its attached to a certain scope box.

Are the views "Dependent views"? If the section line you're trying to move depends from a different one you have to select both and then move them

I had the same problem and found a solution finally.

You can't move because this section it attached to a Primary View.

How to solve?

Click on the section line. Right buttom. Select: Go to Primary View.

Once Revit opens the View: Right buttom at any empty place in your drawing. Select: Find in Project Browser.

It will show you the Primary View in the browser so you can open it.

Right buttom at any empty place in your drawing. Select: Find Reffering Views. Select any of the Plan Views.

In this Plan you will find the Section line of the Primary View, which is the Principal section. Now you can move it 🙂

You can also click with the Right button in the "problematic" section in the browser and select: Convert to an independent View, but I prefer not as it might have other things associated to this view/section.
