Can't make area plans automatically...

Hello there 🙂

Maybe I'm doing something wrong... But I can't make a rentable area plan or a gross building area plan automatically ...

When I try to create an area plan... Revit creates the plan in project browser but nothing else happens... I mean, it looks like a copy/duplicate of the floor I selected for making the area plan... With no changes...

I have seen videos about area plans made with the automatic option and there you can see the difference between the area plan and the floor plan (like the purple line in the area plan). But in my case I see nothing... 😞

I tried changing Visibility and graphics... View range... Object styles... nothing seems to work  😞

Please help 😞

If the area plan was created, now go to that view and add the boundaries for the areas. Maybe you don't see the magenta lines because you answer "no" to the question of "create boundaries automatically"? I usually say no to that question and then create the areas with the Area Boundary tool.

Hello Alfredo 🙂

Well in my case, I did say yes to the question "create boundaries automatically"... But I don't see them... Any ideas?

What did you try to change in VG? Look into Lines category for Area Boundary.

You need to look at what I suggested earlier first.

Good. Now use Area separation tool to pick walls to draw the boundary. See if lines appear. If so, after you have closed boundaries, use Area tool to drop Areas inside the boundaries.

Now, while we are at it, do you actually have walls in your model, or is it a DWG link or import?

The thing is I selected the "automatic" way of doing area plans for both rentable and gross building but it didn't do anything... 😕

In some youtube tutorial videos it seems you just have to click that and it automatically creates the purple boundary lines...

And in my case it doesn't show... so not sure what's wrong 😕

And yes I do have walls in the project... It's not a link or a dwg... 🙂

Check the "Room Bounding" option in your wall properties to be checked. If it is not checked for your walls then the automatic Area Boundary does not work. After checked them, Delete your previous Area plans and make them again.

Delete your previous area plans and make new ones. Maybe it works then.

I think I fixed it... I guess... I couldn't create it "automatically" so I did it manually and added the areas... and a color scheme for the rentable area plan... and schedules...

But it really bother me... why It didn't do it "automatically"?... So I delete the areas from the schedules... the schedules... the ara plans...and the color scheme... and I tried to do it a second time (the automatic way)...  And it worked for some reason... Smiley Frustrated

Not sure why it worked :S

Btw... this only happened to me in this file... With older files and new ones the area plans worked fine... weird... 😕

I'm sorry for wasting your time with my silly questions... Smiley Embarassed

Glad that you fixed it. Yes some times you need to get rid off all you have done and do it again, as I'd mentioned to delete your previous ones and make them again, because for example if your room boundary tick was off when you made area plans and then you make it on it wont work and you need to delete your area plans and make them again.
