Can't cut instance from host

I created this generic model face based void in order to use it to cut openings in other objects. The problem pops up when I load and try to place it on a face it gives this error! I tried to search online but all I could find is delete instance and do it again which mainly gives me the same error again and again

Why is this happening and how to fix it

This occurs when the void/cut falls outside the host...try to place it on a plane and check the extrusion. I suspect it is an 8ssue of polarity +ve / -ve 

Happens when one uses the Start/End of Extrusion parameters...If that is the case edit the family and use a reference plane to control the depth of the extrusion
