can't constrain a void position in a family (window in slanted wall)

Hallo,

I downloaded a great window family from Shuko website, with many parameters. I need to place it in wall with a slanted niche. I managed to make the niche with a void extrusion, I managed also to make the extrusion move with the overall window height, but then it moves away from the gound, I can't make it stick to the floor.

It seems to me that the original window is based on the sill construction plane instead of the ground, but I can't fix it.

Can someone help?

Where did you create the void? Is it a void family that is nested into the window family? If so, hen you can constrain the bottom of the void to the reference plane, control the base of the void, in order to control the placing of the void.

Another way to control the void could be through global parameters. Dimension the void and associate the dimensions with global parameters that you have created for this purpose.

On a side note - I feel your pain - manufacturer families are notorious for being very elaborate - and often buggy. Looking over the parameters would be helpful - and purging some of them that look not-useful - if they look so most probably they are. My personal approach to manufacturer door and window families is to copy the geometry out of the family (CTRL-C, CTRL-V) into a new Door or Window family, and re-constrain. FYI - the copied geometry will bring in a LOT of associated parameters along with them. Another tip - divide and rule. You can follow this procedure with things like panels, etc, create separate families, and ten nest them into the final family. Controlling nested families is so much easier than if all the geometry is modeled in the same family. This would make the family so much easier to work with.

Void Profile - move top and bottom and unlock it firstyou will get two arrow to stretch / movemove and lock it to reference plane - window headmove lower void, lock it to reference plane - Sillload it back and choose second option to override all parameters.

but I need the void attached to the ground, not to the sill.

The problem is that when I use the family in my project if I move the sill the bottom of the void follows it. It doesn't stick to the ground. For example the in the family the default sill height is 900, in the project I move it to 1000, then the void floats 100 over the ground.

The screenshot is taken in the family editor, section. You can see that the void is attached to the reference plane, why the hell does it move in the project?

I used the process you were explaining to attach it to the sill.

My impression is that the reference plane, in the family, is not the ground but the sill. How can I check it?

Actually, it would also be a great option to have a parameter to choose to have the bottom of the void at the sill height OR at the ground level.

Its not necessary to have just ONE void..

Use two voids..

1.Base to Sill

and

2. Sill to window  top..

design of the window will guide that..
