Can't associate family parameters

Hi,

I can't seem to associate family parameters from a family that have been brought into another family. Please see attached. Blue is the dishwasher brought into this family. Red show where the buttons for associating parameters should be.

Lets call the family which is a nest: "Parent".

Lets call the family which will be nested: "Child".

For controlling the parameters of the nested family you have two options:

First:

Make the parameters of the child instance parameters and associate them with the parameters of the parent which may be instance or type parameters.

Second:

Make the child shared. This means that the parent will not control its parameters. The child will be loaded into project- not only parent. So you will be able to control the type parameters of the child and wherever it was nested to, its parents will be updated.

So, the dishwasher may have instance parameters which will be associated... Or it may be shared. If its shared, its type properties will be controlled using project browser/families....

Thanks for your reply.

But how is it that the below sink child family can have its parameters
linked to parameters in the parent family without sharing and without being
instance parameters?

Change Windows Display Scaling to 100%.  It looks way to big in your screenshot.

If the parent drives the child, the parameters of the child have to be instance parameters. But you can use the type parameters of the parent to control the child. For example:

Child instance parameters (they are associated with the parent type parameters):

     Width

     Height

Parent type parameters:

    Dishwasher Width

    Dishwasher Height
