CAD link insert level

I know this has been asked before but I'm hoping since then something has been found out in the matter.

I can't choose the level of insertion for a Linked CAD.

I know i can choose it from lowest level and change it, but this bug completely renders the insert in this view only option completely null. I need to link CAD files to a specific view only, otherwise I am left with an insurmountable amount of filtering layers in view tempaltes.

Is there really no way around this?

I don't understand how you want it to work?  Can you explain?

Link and Import DWG will both permit selecting a Level but you can also just open a view for the correct level first.

When Current View Only is checked the DWG is no longer a "model" element, it is "annotation" and only visible in/relevant to the view that is active, not a level. Level is irrelevant to Current View Only. It's only going to be visible in the view you have open while linking/importing.

View Templates can control the visibility of DWG's effectively when Current View Only is not used.

I'd link to Linka CAD with the option of 'This view only' and simultaneously pick the level in which the CAD is placed.

If you see the picture the drop down option for choosing level is greyed out - No matter Link or import, I can't select the level.

I can do it in 3D and move it but that means i have to start filtering layer for every view template because the CAD will be visible in all views

Everything you are saying is true, however when I'm in the view i want the CAD visible in and the 'only in this view' is toggled on as you see in the picture the drop down for choosing level is greyed out. I can't manually choose - It chooses automatically the lowest level in the model. We have a control at sea level, way below the building so the CAD won't ever be visible when i can't choose the level corresponding to the view I'm in. Does that make sense?

I figured it out!

When i open a sheets and activate the viewport, I couldn't edit the insert level regardless of what i did (Picture 1) If i open the view it self not through the sheet, I'm able to choose visible in all views or adjust the insert level and then choose only visible in this view. (Picture 2)

Lesson learned: Don't link CADs through the sheets i suppose.

Glad you figured that out...

Keep in mind that with Current View Only selected the level you pick makes no difference to what you see because level is irrelevant. It could show Level 100 but if your view is associated with Level 2 then the DWG will only be visible in that view, not on Level 100 views or even other Level 2 views. See image attached, the level association for a DWG linked using Current View Only is unassigned (viewed with IDEATE's Explorer application).

Shorter answer, you're worrying about something needlessly, if you use Current View Only.

Just had this problem, yesterday I was working directly in the view and today I opened the view in the sheet it was placed at and had the same problem as you.

Thanks!
