CAD import linetypes not displaying properly

Hi,

I imported an AutoCAD file as a link and noticed the linetypes are not showing correctly (everything shows "continuous").

I googled for a solution and found a suggestion to import at 1:1 scale and then changing to 1/4"=1'-0".

That worked, but when I reload the file or save an close, the linetypes where all showing continuous again...

Is there a fix for this?

I also noticed that there is no option on the properties for "foreground"/"Background" - not sure how I removed that setting...

When you reload the CAD link, choose retain visibility graphic overrides.

The Background Foreground options are only available if you link or import the CAD file with Current View Only box checked.

Does not work.

It works, TEMPORARILY, if I import at 1:1 scale and then change to 1/4"
scale.

Linetypes go away once I close and re-open the project or as soon as I
reload the link.

What is strange is that the linetypes on the x-ref stay but not the lines on
the "destination" CAD file.

Must be a setting on the CAD destination file.

After searching online, I read something about AutoCAD settings so I tried
setting the same settings for both CAD files for the model space scale,
including the MSLTSCALE, but no luck.

Maybe I'm missing your point.  This is what I see in AutoCAD and Revit (with black backgrounds):

The only things I did was set LTSCALE to 1 and all elements colors to BYLAYER.  The Revit screenshot is the AutoCAD's default appearance.  No VGO's have been applied.

I'm not clear what's happening at your end, or what is supposed to happen on my end when these XREFs are included, but this is the AutoCAD v. Revit comparison I'm looking at with Linetype Scale set to 1.  

Maybe I'm missing something. If so, point it out to me.

You’re Revit display is what I want to see when I import.
My Revit is set to white background but the drafting is the same.
I am able to replicate by importing at 1:1, then changing the scale to 1/4”, once CAD file is linked. It looks good until I reload or close the file and open it again.
Strangely, the xref linetypes (files “2-BED-FLOOR_PLAN.dwg” and “2-BED-ROOF_PLAN.dwg”) stay as created (show correctly) but not the CAD layers in the CAD “destination” file (“C22-195 2-BED MECH.revX.dwg”).
Not sure why Revit would make that distinction, other than maybe a setting I have on the CAD files.
Also, if I paste the “destination” layers on the xref files, they keep displaying correctly.

Not sure if that makes sense…

No it doesn't.  If the drawing is drawn correctly then you always link or import it in at 1:1 given you choose the correct import units. 

I don't get the "changing the scale to 1/4" part.  Change where?  1/4" scale is normally referred to a view scale such as 1/4" = 1', not an element scale.

Can you post a couple of screenshots showing what you see before and after reloading?  Use a black background so I can clearly see the CAD Linework in the screenshots.

I have a Revit view at 1/4” scale.
If I link the CAD file with that scale, linetypes don’t show correctly.
If I set the Revit view scale at 1:1, link the CAD file, then change the Revit view scale to 1/4”, the linetypes show correctly.
That is inconvenient, but not the end of the world - if it stayed that way…
The bigger problem is: as soon as I close the file down and reopen, linetypes go back to displaying solid (continuous).
Make sense now?

So, this is about the patterned linework becoming continuous at a certain view scales?   That's no different than Revit linework.   It's correctable though. Through VGOs.

I think I see what's going on now. You have overlapping linework (on two different layers) in your AutoCAD File.
