Build Number Compatibility

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if it's okay to use different build numbers for a single project. I'm currently using 2017.2 versus consultants are using 2017.2.1. I've seen a posting in other forum that as long as the release number is the same, it shouldn't be a problem. But I wasn't sure if it's really no problem to do so.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous

It is recommended that everyone should have the same build.

This is important so that one user does not introduce unwanted behavior by working in a file in a different version of Revit as issues get fixed in certain builds or Revit.

Dear Viveka,

Thanks very much for your answer. Here's my follow up question if I may:

If we're only linking other disciplines RVT files to ours, would that still create issues? I'm aware of the fixes that higher builds provide, but if one firm is working in 2017.2.1 and the other firm is working with 2017.2, and we're only linking each other's files for coordination, would that still be a critical issue?

Thanks in advance for your attention.

Hi @Anonymous
If you are using C4R, the 2017.2.1 build is recommended for collaboration.

Dear Viveka,

Thanks for your prompt response. It'd be ideal that all parties use the latest available technology/software, but as you would understand that we all have limited resource available within our firms. That's why we're seeking advice in this forum for the expert knowledge. Thanks for your recommendation.

Cheers-

Hi @Anonymous

Yes, it would be ideal with all consultants on the same build and this is recommended, however if you are not working off on a central model or on Collaboration for Revit, and you are only linking in consultant models, there should not be any major issues.

Do let us know how your project is progressing and don't hesitate to ask for any questions along the way.

Good Luck!Smiley Happy
