Bug: project browser freezes when switching between revit models (e.g. between project and family)

I'm experiencing project browser freezes - it becomes completely unresponsive. The rest of the "session" seems fine. I initially though that it happens only when I drag out a view (e.g. a schedule) into a separate window and switch between project and a family editor (or a family editor and another family editor). However, I've just experienced it again when all the views were in the main revit window.

I have three monitor setup - one laptop and two external HD monitors. I've tried changing resolution on them to match, but the issue persists.

It requires restarting revit to fix each time. Any other suggestion how to reset it without restarting revit would be appreciated.

If there is a better place to report this bug please let me know.

Hi,

Please mention which Revit Version / Windows / Revit Addins installed, see if the journal has a log of what followed up to the freeze..

Maybe these links can help:

REVIT-Properties-palette-and-project-browser-frozen

project-browser-and-properties-frozen

Thanks for looking into this. Revit 2024, Windows 10 (Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045), Addins: NBS, RTV Tools, Camilion Command-Line.

I'm struggling to read the logs (from %appdata%\local), if you could redirect me to any guide that would be appreciated.

If it was possible to resolve it without resetting all revit UI that would be also very helpful.

Hi,

You have found the journals location?

For R2024 it should be located in:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2024\Journals

Take the most recent "journal<nr>.txt"

If you know the steps to cause the Freeze, then close Revit and delete all journals (or move to other location) start Revit and follow the steps to when the Freeze happens, (or just work in Revit until it happens) and then stop working in revit (and best to close it then)

This step above would reduce the amount of info in the Journal to see if anything happens of interest...

The most recent events are at the end of the journal file, see if anything stands out with a message "Error/Failure"

Or if possible share such journal (anything in the journal before the freeze happend, see timestamps in journal can be deleted from it.

Ps. Updates are all up-to-date?

Makes sense, thanks - that's really helpful. I will try to replicate the issue, hopefully something useful will pop up in the logs soon.

Good point, no. I can see in Autodesk Access that there are some pending updates. I will try to apply them first.
