'Bold' text when Linking CAD file

Anyone know how to fix this issue? CAD and Revit have the same standards (Arial, 2.2mm, same width factor and so on). The top one comes from Revit, bottom from  linked CAD file.

We have a huge CAD library and we are matching the CAD drawings to suit Revit (mostly just to show how connections should be, followed by schedules with sizes, spacing...) but then I found this issue and so far I found 2 patch to follow:

1 - Link CAD file (I need to make the text looks normal, without the bold appearance)

2 - Import CAD file then Explode (Issues with hatches and short lines)

1. Check the CAD file, and text inside whether its manipulated.. custom bold etc...

2. you can match properties of the text which is coming correctly after linking in the Revit.

3. Usually anything in CAD file which is in BLOCK, doesn't shows up correctly after linking in Revit,

Its better to Explode the elements in CAD file itself than Exploding in Revit file after importing...

4. Try not to explode the CAD after importing, rather than importing, LINK the CAD file,

this way you can control the VG, and if you make any changes to Link file ( CAD ), you can just

reload and your revit file gets updated.

5. Disadvantages of importing CAD and exploding it is, they bring all line types, hatch types etc in Revit,

which can be quite a mess..

Best luck

I just created a blank cad file, added some text in it, linked to Revit and the issue still there. Is there any option on Revit to change that? It doesn't seems to be something on the CAD file itself...

Hi @Anonymous

Which versions of AutoCAD and Revit are you using?

Can you confirm if you have the latest updates installed for both?

Also, can you please share a file to test further?

I look forward to your reply update.

Regards,

Interesting response @Viveka_CD.  This has been the behavior since I began using Revit.  Are you saying it shouldn't be?

@barthbradley I've seen instances, where there is a difference in fonts so, will have to confirm this.

Hi @Viveka_CD

I'm using AutoCAD 2017 and Revit 2018. I also attached a 'TEST' file with the text I used at my first post

Cheers

Edit 1: Sorry, wrong file (right one now)

Edit 2: I've tried Importing from AutoCAD 2017 to Revit 2017 and I got the same result

It has always been the case.  Only SHX fonts are not affected when you link or import CAD in Revit.

I downloaded a SHX version of Arial and still bolder than the Revit text.

No, I wasn't wondering about an SHX Arial specifically; I was wondering about comparing an SHX to a TTF.   What's the benchmark in Revit for comparison?

I think Toan and I have confirmed that isn't possible to solve.  It's always been that way.  In fact, I opened a support case for it with Autodesk years ago.  I think they returned some technical jibber-jabber as an explanation, but no solution.

The only workaround is save a copy of the CAD file (2), turn off the text layer of the CAD link (1) in Revit, import (2) and choose only the text layer, partial explode it make all the CAD text Revit native. Then they will show up nice and tidy.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for sharing the test file. I will get back to you after some testing on our end and any feedback from the annotation team.

Thanks,

Viveka

I was having the same issue when in Revit. When I printed the Revit file to PDF, both the Revit and CAD text appear the same.

This seems to have solved it for me.
