Blank Keynote on Sheet

A Revit User came to me with an issue (that has stumped me); In my dependent view, I have one keynote placed. But on my Keynote Legend on the sheet, it shows that I have two used.

I have checked/tried;

• Hidden Elements
• Filtered Elements
• Categories Turned off
• Links turned off
• 'Select All in view'
• View Range for elements
• Workset Visibility for tagged elements
• Tried creating new view, but it still reads 1 blank Keynote
• Deleted the sheet and remade
• Deleted View and Remade
• Purged and reloaded Keynote Family Tag
• Audit/Compact
• Detach & Resave Central

I am not sure what else to check...at the end of my wits here and being driven crazy by a single ghost Keynote Tag that will not stop haunting me...

Some other tactics you might try:

• When you did "Select All Instances", did you check for all three Keynote classes (Element, Material and User)? There may be one of these which evaded the Select All Instances command used on another class.
• Is there more than one Keynote family loaded into the project? Again, this would have evaded a cursory Select All Instances command.
• Is there a blank keynote in the text/Notepad file? I doubt this would manifest in a blank row since that blank note's line would need to be connected with a placed keynote in Revit, but it may be good to check all the same.
• Have you tried creating a new Notepad file with the same keynote text copied-and-pasted into it from the original file, then loading this new file into Revit as the Keynote file? Maybe the Keynote file itself is corrupt. I'm not experienced in programming, so I'm certainly spit-balling with this bullet point.
• As a final check, have you tried deleting all modeled and detail item elements in the file (after creating a copy of the file), then placing one element (a wall maybe), attaching a keynote to the element, putting that view on a sheet, then placing the Keynote Legend on that same sheet? This would not tell you much, but it would at least tell you if this is caused by a glitch or if there truly is a Keynote element hiding somewhere.

Just some more ideas to keep the brainstorming going.

• When doing the 'Select all instances' (in R18), it will find all the Keynote Tag families of that Type, regardless of the style of Keynote (Material, User, Element).
• I checked the family browser, only 1 keynote family & type is loaded in.
• Nope, no blanks in the .txt file 
• Jus loaded in the new keynote file, the same keynote legend is still showing up blank 😞
• Oh lawd. That's an absolute last-case scenario! The deadline is fast approaching for this project, and I am not sure i have the time for that 😞

Alright, let's keep going. Is this only happening for the keynotes on one view, or is it happening with multiple views?

Have you checked different phases to see if any keynotes tags are attached there? I realize keynote tags are exclusive to the phase selected, but maybe something is amiss in the phasing settings.

Have you toggled to Do Not Crop View, then used V/G to hide all annotation elements except keynote tags, then deleted keynote tags one-by-one as they are accounted for?

Here is a simple one but I've done it before: have you checked that all keynote tags are assigned to keynote items in the Notepad file as desired? In the past I have accidentally deleted the Key Value before, yet the number remained the same so it appeared to have been unchanged. See the image below.

Finally figured out what happened! It was a terrible chain of events XD

The view with the issues was a First floor view. The user raised the VR all the way up to second floor working view ranges (Top, Cut & Bottom were referencing the second floor...for a first floor plan). The user then placed a keynote and never assigned it a value. Then at some point lowered the view range back down to proper First Floor working settings (Top, Cut & Bottom referencing First Floor). So the Keynote was almost 18' above my First Floor...Wayyyyy above what I ever would have checked in normal conditions.

So lesson to be learned: Just because it out of View Range, the Keynote Legends will still pick it up if it was created in that view!

Hello world,

I have Revit 2022 which sounds like it made the multi category scheduling much more robust...but I'm having this issue too, at least the project isn't huge but I've been searching for quite some time already.

I thought I could create a multi category schedule to show Keynote value and the Family and Type, but they aren't all here...so I guess not? Does anyone know why not? Is there another schedule I could make that would produce this result? Does this narrow down my result to perhaps detail items or something?

If you could return the Family and Type category in the Keynote legend it would make this issue easy to correct. Is that something that Autodesk could do?
