I'm trying to add a wall to design options but it give me the error "element must be in main model". Well it is and I have no idea why its saying this. I can create a new project and add a wall to options just fine. Appreciate any help

Does the wall have doors, windows, opening, or other elements it might host?

If so try to put those elements to the same option with the wall.

I had to copy, delete, and the paste aligned to get certain objects in the design option - not sure why as there is nothing hosted in those objects

That's the workflow to move design option elements between design options.  But you are moving from Main to DO; right?  What version of Revit are you using?
