Best way to duplicate a wall opening?

I have created a wall opening using Model In-place > Generic Models > Create > Opening, then selecting my wall.  I would like to reproduce this opening shape for other walls, but I can't seem to load the opening family (or is it a type?).  When I hover my cursor over the opening shape, it shows 'Generic models > cutout > cutout'.  When I try to load via Component > Place Component > Load Family, I can't even find the Generic Models folder.  A search of my drive doesn't turn up any files with the name of the family.  Would it be better to model a group of extrusions, then duplicate that as needed and use the cut tool?

I should add that the cutout shape shows up in the Project Browser, but I can't figure out how to bring it into the project.  I apologize for the trivial question!

In place models only exists in the project.  You have to copy it from one place to another.  The copies however don't relate to the original, if you edit one the others won;t get updated.  In-place models is nor recommended to you are going to have multiple instances placed.  You should have created a family and load it in then  you get it from the project's family browser and place it multiple times.

Thanks for your response!  So I should make a family for the wall, with the openings in it?  In searching for how to do this, I came across the following forum post, which states "Walls are system families and you can't create new families." (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/how-can-i-create-a-wall-or-a-floor-as-a-fami... Indeed, there appears to be no wall template for families.

No. Make a family as a window or a door for the opening.

In Revit family folder under door and window there are Structural folder, where you can find the door and window opening.  Load them and create the size you need.

If your opening is rectangular then the easiest is to use the built in wall opening tool.

Can you demolish a wall opening?

Well you can't demolish something that doesn't exist.  The opening takes on the phase of the wall, so if you demolish the wall then the opening goes with it.  You can fill the hole in with a new wall if you want.
