Autodesk material library is missing on the library panel

The library panel on the Material Browser window  has to have by default  the AEC Materials library and the Autodesk Materials library. I am using Revit 2020, and the library panel only has the AEC Materials and is missing the Autodesk materials. I already repair and re-installed the program, but it still does not show, Is there a way on how to add it manually, or is there a web site where I can download the official library? What steps should I follow in order to have the autodesk materials on the library panel?

on the image below is how I have it, As you can see the only library that shows is the AEC Materials, and the autodesk materials is missing:

library missing_LI (2).jpg

And now on this image below is how it is supposed to be:

I am going to try it out, to be honest I get lost when looking for archives on the on the local disk (C:) I always feel I'm going to delete something by mistakes, or move a folder to an incorrect locations,

Thanks anyways

Do to have C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\2020\assetlibrary_base.fbm?

Now when I open the Folder this is the content:

asset library base.png

Note: on the material folders there are different versions,  2020 is the current version I have, 2018 and 2019 are previous revit programs I already uninstalled, and the 2015 is Autocad which is currently installed. How can I get rid of all of the previous revit version files, I uninstalled everything that had to do from 2018 and 2019 from the control panel. I uninstalled a lot of programs under those previous versions. The only one that is still installed is Autocad 2015 but the program is closed. please help :(, thank you so much

If you look under in the list of installed programs to pick from when you perform an Uninstall Program through Windows, you will see several Autodesk Advanced Material Libraries. Each of them can be repaired individually by simply right-clicking on them and choosing "Repair".  If you don't see any Advanced Material Libraries, then follow these instructions to download and install them:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autode...

...note that the issue may also be that the Libraries are not accessible due to improper folder permissions. You may want to check the "Security" tab of all the folders in the path to verify that you are listed and have proper controls.

thank you very much barthbradley

I am about to run the msi, but I'm not sure which ones, I am going to use the ones from the link I listed before and the steps from the link you provided me, because the link you gave does not have the specific msis to fix my specific issue. I do not like to follow random steps, because then I end up messing around with the files and then it gets worst.

The link you provided me contains this image, but the instructions said to run the desired msi, which I do not know. I don't know if this image are the specific ones i have to run or is it just an example, because the link refers to 3dmax and other autodesk products.

2019-07-27T14_13_56.png

these other link: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

step 4 says to install 4 msi instead of just 3 listed on the image above:

  1. Manually reinstall the material libraries by running the following MSI files:
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2018\CM\MaterialLibrary2018.msi
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2018\ILB\BaseImageLibrary2018.msi
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2018\ILL\LowImageLibrary2018.msi
  • (Installation Media)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2018\ILM\MediumImageLibrary2018.msi

..How can I fix  the Libraries that are not accessible due to improper folder permissions. which folders should I  check the "Security" tab in the path to verify that it is listed and have proper controls?

What do you recommend me? should I right click fix those 4 msi?

Hi barth bradley, I already tried the repair option on 4 msi files from ADSkMaterials 2020, and the autodesk materials are still missing on the material browser. You told me something about the security and permissions, just to make sure you told me to check the security tab on all files located on assetlibrary_base.fbm,  On the image below is the security tab and I clicked on the permission buttom, but I am kind of stuck, i don't now what changes have to be done there.

You don't repair the msi files. Those are the installer files. Go to Control Panel=>Programs=>Programs and Features and search for "Advanced Material Library".  Those are what you repair.   If you don't have any, then install them via those msi files you found.  Understand?

I did a clean uninstall, and installed the program again but the Autodesk material library still does not show on the library panel. should I still repair them from the control panel?

Can you post a screenshot of what you are NOT seeing?  What are you looking at?

The autodesk materials are missing on the material browser. the only one tha is shown is the AEC materials. The autodesk materials are supposed to be above the AEC materials.

Hey! Where the heck is your "Autodesk Materials" folder???

Kidding.

You know, I don't have it either. Never realized it. I've got AEC and all my custom folders, but Autodesk Materials is nowhere to be found.  What's even stranger, is that I have the "Autodesk Materials" Folder in 2018 -- but NO "Autodesk Materials.adsklib" file.  Every other Materials Folder is associated to an adsklib.  Go figure.  I'm stumped.

I put in an inquiry to Autodesk moments ago. I should hear back from them in a couple of days.

At least I'm not the only one, I'm kind of releived. I hope they reply you soon. This issue has got me frustrated since last week. I'm doing some revit exercises and all of them they look for the materials on the autodesk material library.

Thank you barth bradley, I'll be waiting for their response as well Smiley Very Happy

Hey @Caed9! You awake?

Okay, get ready to hit the "Accepted Solution" button.

Here's what Autodesk wrote back:

Hello Barth,

I understand when reviewing the default material libraries in Revit 2020, you are finding that the "Autodesk Materials" library is missing compared to Revit 2018.

It looks like you are encountering the issue described in the following article:

Autodesk Material Library is missing in the materials library in Revit

I did some further testing on this and found a possible workaround that will allow the library to remain available during the Revit session, however it still disappears again once Revit is closed.

Here are the steps for this workaround:

1. Create a copy of the PhysicalMaterial.adsklib file in the following folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\2020

2. Rename the copied folder AutodeskMaterials.adsklib.

3. Load the new AutodeskMaterials.adsklib file into your Revit project.

Note: There will be a warning "!" that the copied library cannot be found.

4. Right click on the newly added library and select relocate.

5. Select the original PhysicalMaterial.adsklib file.

6. Click OK.

7. Confirm that the new Library is retained in the Materials dialog when re-opened.

Does this allow you to load and use the library?

hi @bartbradley How's it going..
It did work, I finally loaded the Autodesk Materials by following the steps listed on your solution post. I Hope they fix it on an upcomming update, so that it stays locked. Thanks so much man, I apologize I did not reply fast, I didn't thought it was going to be that quick. Like I had already given up with this issue. Now I feel more encouraged to continue practicing Revit.
Again many thanks

Well, it's a solution of sorts, but a PAIN to do every single time one launches Revit. Any word on an actual fix that sticks?

Not that I'm aware of, but then we've moved on without it.

You are the king. What a unpredictable method? It works friend thank you. Every version a new content and material library problem. They can not make it stable. Lots of country and lots of library but all of them are same. At the and lots of GB and can' t find anything at the library. I am bored about this.
