Assigning Orbit to Joystick

Anonymous

I have reciently recieved a Logitech G13 and have fully assigned Keyboard shortcuts to all of the keys.  I would like to assign 'shift-middle button' to the joystick but I can figure out what controls the Orbit comand.

Thanks for any help...

Since this is a third party piece of hardware its unlikely that development tested on it. However, I did find this post that may help: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/G-Series-Gaming-Keyboards/G13-Joystick-to-mouse-movement/td-p/840146

Hope this helps and thanks for posting.

Hi, Sorry for the way I typed it it was unclear - 3Dconnexion spacemouse has build in functionality in revit.  It would appear that if they could get testing and support as an add on then others should be able to as well...  The G13 is not a 3D controller but it has greatly expanded the ability to add keyboard and macro comands to Revit.  I have 25 programable keys with 3 modes including a joystick that gives me 75 comand entries under my hand with one or two keys to hit.

I'm just trying to find out how to revit enables the orbit comand so I can program this in with our getting into length macros and scripting...

Thanks,

Miccal

I'm assuming the 3Dconnexion spacemouse utilized the API or other code within the application. Technically any of this would be unsupported are all are third party hardware. Beyond contacting the vendor directly or possible finding a post I'm not sure what else I can offer.

Thanks for posting.

Hi there Miccal,

Have you been able to configure the G13 joystick to serve as orbit tool in Revit?

I can't find any helpful setting to make it work.

Hello Miccal! Hi g13 users!

how are you?

So I think I've found a good work around for using the joystick. 🙂

Step 1: on the g-software, click on one of the joystick buttons and select "asign mouse" option.

Step 2: click on G19 or G20 (or whatever key will be confortable for your index finger) and select "asign new command"

Step 3: once in the command editor, select Multi Key option, inside press "start recording" button and press only once the Shift key.    "Stop the recording", make right click over the last "mayus key" (with the arrow up) and delete it.
Step 4: Right click on the black space where actions are recorded, go to "Insert mouse event" and select "Middle button" -> "down".  Press "ok" to close the editor.

How to use this workaround on Revit:
On the 3d space, keep pressed with the index finger the key to which you have asigned the "Shift" key (I suggest to use G19 or G20 because it's closer to the joystick and more confortable for the hand).
At the same time while pressing the key, with your thumb orbit the joystick and voilà! 🙂

Cons:
-you must keep pressed another button at the same time (actually we've been pressing shift on the normal keyboard and orbiting with the mouse)
-You must be sure not to move the mouse, because it will orbit while pressing the key asigned to Shift stroke.

Pros:
Yes, you are finally using the G13 joystick to orbit the 3d model on Revit!!!
Hint: try to asign a correct position for the orbiting pivot.

Let me know if something. 😉
