Assigning different materials to walls

Hey...I have been trying to assign different materials to my walls, but every time I change the material of one wall, all the other walls change to the same material. I have tried drawing a new duplicated wall altogether, but it wasn't of any good. Any solution?

Because they are of the same Wall type.  Duplicate the Wall type to a new one and change the materials to that type.

I did exactly that the first time, but when I change the material, all the walls change to that same material....so thats where the problem is...maybe they are all the same type that's why!!

This did work when I changed the type. Just a doubt though, will my materials only change if they are two complete different type of walls?, for e.g, what if I use the Generic type for both walls, but I draw them separately duplicating and renaming both to different identities. ( That's what I did, and it didn't work the first time)

Hello @Anonymous

I think you encounter this problem because you duplicate the materials right?

whenever you changed the material for different walls they were all the same in appearance. If so you'll have to click this button(see image) to completely duplicate every materials you created.

What do you mean by "renaming both to different identities"?  How would you do that?

Normally if you want two walls having different materials, just keep them as different wall types so that you can assign different materials to each type.  Optionally, you can have two walls of the same type, and use Paint tool to paint a different material on the surfaces of one wall.  But it only change the surface appearance and not the actual component layer materials.

If you are talking about editing a material, then two different materials must use two different Assets, which is what @Anonymous has shown you.
