Assign different materials to array of chairs?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to assign different materials to families within an array?

I have a row of chairs which have been created as an array (they're auditorium chairs).  At the moment, when I change the material of the chair seat and back, it changes them all to the same material in the array.  Is it possible to not do this?   I need to have each chair a different colour, and right now I can only think that I need to back track and not array.

Many thanks.

Create the rows of chairs using an Adaptive family or a curtain wall then you can assign different materials to different chairs.

How do you make the Curtain Panel as a chair?

Figured it out. make a new curtain panel family with a chair in it.  This is a cool idea! 🙂

Create a "chair" but in the curtain panel category.

Also, if there is a set pattern, you could potentially use an array. Just include multiple chairs in the initial selection, so if they alternate red - blue - red - blue, just make one red chair and one blue chair and array them together (just as an example). Might need to manually add some to the end if it doesn't add up right.

So there are some workarounds, but there isn't a way to modify elements of a straight up array.

Create an empty curtain panel family and nest in a shared chair (furniture) family.  Material parameters of the chair family shall be instance and associated with instance material parameters of eh curtain panel family.

You can tag those nested chairs with furniture tag and schedule them normally, nothing changes.
