Assembly Views - Referencing an asssebly view in a floor plan

Hi,

I've started using assemblies in my projects to help generate casework/millwork views and sheets.

However, I've encountered an issue of once the assembly views are placed on my working drawing sheets I'm unable to reference the views in my floor plans.

Is there a way to use the 'Reference Other View' to reference assembly views?

To explain further, I have a custom desk/workstation that I turned into an assembly and generated assembly views at a scale of 1:10. The assembly views were placed on my working drawing sheets. I now want to create a callout on my 1:50 furniture plan that references the enlarged assembly plan of the desk/workstation. Currently, there seems to be no way of generating a reference callout without faking it.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only way "out of the box" I have been able to intelligently tag the sheet and view for assembly views is by using the "View Reference" tool. Perhaps building a custom view reference family could work?   If the View Reference tool had an option for a Leader it would be more usable for instances like this.  Currently it is floating text, which we only use for matchline references.

It would be ideal to be able to place a callout and reference the assembly views, which you pointed out.

I have dug into this a bit further, which you may already know this but here is goes.  

You can reference the plan view of an assembly using a section or elevation, but not the callout tool.  I was hoping that by locking the 3D view of the assembly it would somehow give the ability to reference those views similar to 3D views of the model.  Having the assembly 3D view locked doesn't have an affect on being able to reference the plan in a callout, section or elevation.

Being able to reference with a callout would be ideal, but at least we are able to reference with an elevation or section marker.

I have had similar issues with using assemblies and found that if you add the assembly view to a sheet, and add cropping you are then able to reference the view using a callout.  this is with Revit 2017.1

Only go to the Plan view of the Assembly and  crop the view, after that use the callout reference view tool and  should be able to see the plan view Reference Name and number. Done 🙂
