Assembly Code: Masterformat vs Uniformat

Hi,

Our project currently uses Uniformat assembly code:

We want to switch to Masterformat for spec writing purposes.

We don't understand what will happen to the project once we upload a new assembly code file. The Uniformat system classifies entire assemblies but Masterformat classifies individual assembly parts (i.e. metal studs, gypsum wall board, etc).

Would a wall that has multiple parts show multiple masterformat assembly codes? Is that something that is done?

Thanks for any help.

What do you mean by "switch" to Masterformat? You cannot. They are two entirely different formats. Assembly vs. Keynote.

I understand that one can use the Autodesk Standardized Data Tool to assign Masterformat numbers to elements. I have managed to get this tool running on my build and have successfully assigned a class to an element.

But given that the element is a wall assembly with multiple components, how do I assign masterformat numbers to each component in the assembly?

How would I get the information I can tag on a plan to appear in a schedule?

below shows the (incorrect) single masterformat class assigned to the wall

Err.. I don't think I can distribute this model. But what I am trying to do is described in this post too:

Generally I tend to think that I'm doing something the wrong way if revit doesn't allow it, which is why I'm not sure if what @jamal340 and I are asking makes sense.

I can mock up what I am trying to produce for the project. But this uses a "dumb" masterformat text parameter that I retype. Is it possible to bring native masterformat number parameter to parts?

If you want to keynote individual components then use material keynote or create parts.

Ok nixing the scheduling idea..

How would I go about adding a new keynote to the Masterformat keynote file downloaded by the tool?

You need to edit the source file and add value to the description column.
