Area and Floor Plan

Hello,

Probably easy ones, but yet can't figure out how to do it.

1. Show area in "Floor Plan" instead of "Area Plan"

2. Show area without rounding up numbers instead of 15m2 show 14.88m2

3. Hide area lines when printing out?

In floor Plan view you tag Rooms ... you cannot tag areas. However, On the Area Plan you can get the same results shown in the image you posted

1. Go to visibility graphics >> Model Categories >> Lines >> Switch off Area Boundaries
2. Manage Tab >> Settings >> Project Units >> Change Area to show Decimals

Are you using Areas for Rooms?  Seems odd.  Why not use Rooms or Spaces?

Yeah, somehow I missed that there are "Room Tag With Area" available for Rooms.

Room tags with areas are calculated to interior face of wall.  

Area plans allow for the calculation to be where you draw the line - which may not want to be at the interior face of wall.

So the what is the conclusion?  areas derived from Area Plans are the same as those from Rooms and can be simply interchanged any time/where?

Areas derived from a Floor Plan and an Area Plan are absolutely NOT the same.

Some areas need to be calculated using a specific face of Wall while others require centerline of wall.  So a 'whole project' toggle to switch between one and the other does not work.  To dive deeper, you can use an area to include lots of rooms and label it as a single area instead of each room individually.

This is how our office deals with this:

• Areas should be calculated using Area Plans
• Each area is calculated per room typically.
• All Areas totaled should match the "Gross" building SF (Outside Perimeter exterior wall face).
• Areas and Rooms should be named the same.  As such a Dynamo script or manual revision is required.
• We overlay and Area Plan (with nothing but tags visible) and a Floor Plan if you need to see both tags simultaneously on a sheet.

Conclusion?   What do you mean? I just posted a couple of screenshots in response to a comment I read that said: "Room tags with areas are calculated to interior face of wall".    Maybe it's helpful. Maybe it's not. But, beyond that; I don't conclude.  I just wonder why the OP is using Areas in the manner he is.  Seems odd.

Barth I was just asking...usually expect straightforward answers which may make things even clearer for the OP with respect to when to use which. But again, wishful thinking, that's not what its all about here ...

@David_Knight thank you for taking the time to type all that 🙂 but that is not the deference which I was hoping someone would highlight or elaborate on..

Areas do have certain distinctive behaviors (example below - since that is what Barth Picked) ... nah ya maybe some other time this will come up on another post
