Apps that you can delete

My computer at work has gotten super slow due to lack of storage. Upon further investigation, I realized that this computer has been around for quite a few years and I had multiple versions of Revit & AutoCad going back to 2020. I've deleted a considerable amount of applications but there's a few I'm not sure if I can delete. I use the 2024 version of Revit currently, but I have apps named "Autodesk Advanced Material Library Medium Resolution Image Library 2021" (and the 2023 one)  and "Auto desk Revit US English Base Families 2021."

I did some research and one Autodesk Help Guide said that everything is installed within Revit 2024 but I just want confirmation before I go and delete things (especially off the work computers) Thanks in advance!

You can uninstall all Autodesk stuff for versions you don't have installed. So for example, if you have AutoCAD 2022 and Revit 2024, then you can uninstall anything except 2022 and 2024.

Delete this folder.

It's just a bunch of junk installation files from Autodesk.

In addition, clean up your local files and their backups (located in "My Documents"), as well as the journal files (located here: C:\Users\"User"\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2024\Journals)

There can be a lot of space taken up by backup files that may no longer be relevant to your current work.

When cleaning up Revit, I usually focus on removing add-ins I never touch and anything that runs in the background without adding value. It’s similar to how people approach mobile apps now keeping tools that actually improve control and removing limitations. If you’re only using Revit 2024, you can usually remove those older libraries, just double-check nothing breaks your current projects first. It’s kind of like how on Happymod you only keep the latest version of an app, no need to clutter things with outdated files slowing everything down.

Here’s what those items are:

• “Autodesk Advanced Material Library Medium Resolution Image Library 2021/2023”
  These are texture/material image libraries used by Autodesk products for rendering materials. Multiple versions often get left behind after upgrades.
• “Autodesk Revit US English Base Families 2021”
  This contains the default Revit families/templates for Revit 2021 only (doors, windows, annotations, etc.).

Since you’re actively using only Revit 2024:

Usually safe to uninstall

You can generally remove:

• Older Revit Base Families (2020/2021/etc.)
• Older Material Libraries tied to versions you no longer use

What NOT to remove

Keep:

• Anything labeled:
  • “2024”
  • “Shared Components”
  • “Licensing”
  • “Autodesk Access”
  • “Genuine Service”
  • “Single Sign On”

Those are often shared by current Autodesk apps.

One important caveat

If you still use:

• older AutoCAD/Revit projects requiring legacy content,
• custom render materials,
• or another Autodesk app from 2021/2023,

then removing those libraries could remove access to some old materials/families. It usually won’t break Revit 2024 itself, but some content may disappear until reinstalled.

Best approach

1. Keep all 2024 components.
2. Remove clearly versioned 2020/2021 Autodesk add-ons first.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Open Revit 2024 and test:
   • opening a project,
   • loading families,
   • material browser/rendering.

If something is missing, Autodesk installers can reinstall those components later.

Also, uninstalling old full Autodesk versions can leave behind huge leftover folders. Check these locations afterward for old-version files:

• C:\Program Files\Autodesk
• C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
• C:\Autodesk
• %temp%

Just be careful not to delete folders for 2024.
