Applying a parameter label do a dimension locks up Revit

I am making a detail component like many others I have made before. There are two instance parameters that are created to allow you to drag the end of the detail component to the extent of the drawing. I am trying to apply the parameter label to the dimension and Revit has gone haywire trying to regenerate the graphics. I have been waiting for several minutes, and I am not sure it is actually going to successfully regenerate, it gets close to the end and then restarts. This is just simple linework aligned to a reference plane. I can move the plane and everything flexes like it should, nothing is overconstrained...

Delete the parameters.  Select each dimension, click assign parameter to create a new instance length parameter associated with the dimension on the fly.

This supplies the same result. I was able to solve the problem by grouping the complex linework.
