Analytical model of a model in-place

Hello!

I have a question concerning creating  models in-place. I had to model very irregular wooden beams and I draw them as separate in-place models (structural frames). The obvious drawback of such an approach is that those beams doesn't contain an analytical model.

I've learnt that I can draw an analytical line for an in-place beam in edit mode, but here my question arise. If I turn on the analytical model the analytical lines of those beams are visible - succes! But I noticed that if I draw a Revit stuctural beam its analytical line is ended on both sides with analitical nodes. The lines of my "custom" beams are not. So, is it possible to add analytical nodes (I can't find this option anywhere)? If not, will Revit or other software "see" two beams as connected during some analysis?

When you create your in-place model, you can choose to create Model Lines (Analytical Model Projection or cut) lines as well.  This will result in the ability to create a custom analytical line for the custom beam.

in my project i have no choice but using model in place to draw columns, walls and beams , when i tried to check the analytical model i did not find any analytical lines for them , please if you can discuss more to me how to do it, i'll be thankful for you .. need help

Hey,

thank you for your answers and for the great video. Now I've found an answer for one of my questions - you just can't add analytical nodes to in-place models. I can see that you can "manually" connect custom elements, but still I have a question: if I performed some structure analysis would Revit see those elements as connected even though there are no analytical nodes? In other words does Revit "know" that they are connected? Or is it just a visual effect?

I think the answer to that question will depend on the structural analysis software outside of revit (i.e. robot).  I think that if you use Revit's cloud based analysis tool, it will look at the model and assume they are NOT connected since no nodes are present.  I would have to test this on a model...or you can do it with your model if you have Revit on subscription and can access your cloud analysis features within Revit.

It's been a while since I worked in Revit, but when I find a moment I will try to check it. But for now it seems to me that there is no point in drawing analytical lines if it doesn't contribute anything to structure analysis. Unless it's possible to edit it in some external software like Robot, but I'm totally not familiar with this type of software. Nevertheless, thank you 🙂
