ADSK Site Model flips Survey Point and Project Base Point during import to C3D

When I export an ADSK model from Revit it shows the correct survey point during the export.  When I import into Civil 3D, it places the project base point at the location of the survey point.  I have tried this with multiple files.

...but is the building correctly positioned relative to the SP/PBP?

The building is set up correctly relative to the Survey Point and Project Base Point in Revit. The survey point coordinates are shown correctly in the dialog boxes during the export from Revit and import into Civil 3D, but in Civil 3D, the Project Base Point inserts at the position of the Survey Point.  DWGs insert correctly.

The building is correct relative to the PBP.  I just have to move it to the correct location in Civil 3D.

Have you actually opened it in Civil? That's what I was referring to. Is the building located at the correct coordinates in the Civil?  I bet it is.

I think you are talking about a .DWG export.  I am talking about a .ADSK export.  I do not believe you can open an ADSK file without importing.  Sorry if I am confused.

Did you go to the Export settings > Site tab and set a Shared Site as the Current position?

You misunderstood.

Anyways, another workaround might be exporting the file to DWG using Shared Coordinates and then importing the DWG file to Civil 3D.

...just to clarify: I was wondering if the base point coordinates data was correct (e.g.  Easting, Northing, and Elevation).

For anyone else who is having this problem, I eventually located some information from an Autodesk University course called Autodesk Consulting Add-on Utilities: COBie Toolkit and BIM Coordinator Tool (Miroslav Schonauer and Rich Mitrenga).

Here is a quote from the slide deck:

"

  • AC Technical Consultants and Customer Success Managers were consistently reporting customers having problems spatially coordinating RVT models in C3D
  • With new C3D 2012 features enabling non-corridor entities being visible in cross-sections, it became very important to import full Revit 3D DWG models precisely in C3D models.

NOTE/CAVEATS regarding Revit’s ADSK-format export to Civil 3D:

  • Full 3D DWG export should be used for the above-described requirements.
  • The ADSK format export is still the main recommended workflow to get Revit models within Civil 3D, as it’s designed to produce more lightweight Revit shell, connection points, textures and BIM information.
  • ADSK format does however have some issues with locating the model L. Its hard-coded location feature is based on the *survey* point in Revit which shared coordinates do not set, so ADSK format does not get affected/fixed by the current tools."

In addition, it sounds like ADSK export will be removed from Revit 2019.  I recommend giving up on the ADSK format and just exporting 3D dwg files.
