Adding Identity Data to an imported CAD model

Hello,

I'm trying to add some identity data to a model, so later I can read it in a schedule.

I used the trial 2018 version, and I remember this being relatively easy, I was able to add name, description, manufacturer, notes...etc

I see some "default" ones, but what is the best way to add more data so it can be read in a project schedule?

Thanks for the help!

If you import the CAD drawing in a family then you can add whatever you want.

That's good to know, but if need to add more identity data fields (for example name), I run into this now window saying that a family parameter cannot appear in schedules. The shared parameters option takes me to a browse window, and i don't know what should I be selecting.

You need to create a new Shared Parameter file if you don't have one.  Then you can create Parameter Groups and Parameters to use in your family (images 1-3).  When done, you need to add the same Shared parameters in your project, assign them to the same Category of the Family (last image).

To continue in the same vein, Shared Parameters will allow parameters to show up in a schedule. Project Parameters won't. Moral of the story - Schedule = Shared Parameters. Capisce?

Regarding Shared Parameters - in the workplace most probably everyone will not have editing rights to the Shared Parameter.txt file. You may need to ask  one of the Blessed Ones for the parameter you want to be created - which would be the route to take if the Shared Parameter you need is going to be repeated in multiple projects. The other plan would be to check if it's OK to create your own and if so, go ahead and create it - this would work for a Shared Parameter that will not be repeated over projects.

You certainly meant that family parameters do not show in a schedule.

Revit add-ins: CAD Purger (delete UNUSED and selected line patterns & line styles, find and delete CAD), Rooms To Spaces, Schedule Utilities (Calculated Values/Combined Parameters To Tags, reuse view filter rules in schedule filters), View Filter Manager at Revit Apps Store

Thanks. This gets me in the right path.

Just to be sure, I can't add more shared parameters to the IDENTITY DATA GROUP...right?

You can organize shared Parameters to any group, including Identity Data. Pick it from the Group list when you create the Parameters.

That's great news. I went and look for the Identity Data group and couldn't find it. any idea where the file lives?
