Adding comments to a group?

I'm currently working on a window schedule.  Due to the complexity of the windows I'm making use of the curtain wall tool and generally things are going fine.

However I have a problem.  There are certain curain wall elements that are used in multiple locations.  To keep things in sync these have been converted to groups.  So far so good, except that in several instances window arrangements have been swapped to a different type and I'd like to note this in the schedule.  If I was using a standard window family I could add this in to the comment field but with groups I don't have that functionality.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how else this type of change could be recorded?  It's primarily for the advantage of those that the schedule is issued to so that they can easily take in the changes that have been made.

Can you post a screenshot of your schedule?

It really depends how your schedule is done, but potentially you could add a new text Project Parameter to walls. Set it to Instance and Values can vary by group instance.
This way you could add comments to a particular curtain wall

@maciejwypych Thanks for the suggestion, however even with an instance parameter every instance of the group remains identical.  So if I add in a project parameter and edit the group to add a note that get applies to all other instances of the group.  In my case I would need to log it against the window panel itself rather than the wall but the principle would be the same.

@ToanDN Please see attached schedule - it's actually more expansive than this as it calculates free area and such like as well but this is the primary info just now.  Essentially I want to add a comment field that would allow me to inform the contractor of the changes e.g. CW-00-007 might say 'type change CWT-01 to CWT-04.

We're finding more and more that we need to accurately record the changes that are taking place in the model, often we are not being asked to issue revised drawings until much later on when design changes are complete, this could work well for us and save time but we need to be able to efficently track the changes.

Guess I am thick today. Any chance to upload a portion of your Revit model and schedule?

Hi @Keith_Wilkinson

If you select "Values can vary by group instance" in the project parameters dialog, you can apply different parameters to elements in separate group instances.
You don't have to edit the group to do that, just press Tab to select the Window panel (or whatever category you've added your project parameter to) and you can type in the comment.

That was it.  I know I've seen / used that before but it was completely missing from my mind!!

Many thanks.
