Add to a schedule something that is not present in the project.

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if I can add to a schedule something that is not present in the project.

 

For example: considerind that for each "object A" I need 2 steel supports and for each "object B" I need 3 plastic supports. But I do not want to add/model those supports into my project, I would like jto add to the project just the "objects A" and the "objects B" and in the schedule I would like to see also the supports even if they are not modeled into the project, like the supports are "related" to the objects. Is it possible in some way?

Just create an empty family yourself I guess.

You may create/add other non-graphical parameters to the family. For example, you have parameters named as "Support Type" and "Numbers of Support"

not knowing how you have your schedule structured, could you create a Shared Parameter in the family, or create a project parameter for that category in the project file. Then include that parameter in your schedule.

 

call the parameter "Number of Supports" and make it an instance parameter. you can fill the parameter in that "Object A" that it has 2 steel supports and tell "Object b" that it has 3 plastic supports and they can be displayed in the schedule.

@hmunsell the one you suggested could be a solution, but in that case I would read the parameter "inside" the object and not as a new object.

I try to explain better: If I have "object A" and a type parameter where I specify the nr. of supports (for example I have 2 supports for each object A); in the schedule I will put: description, count, and the new parameter "nr. of supports".

So If in the project I put 5 "object A" in the schedule I will see:

description=object A

Count= 5

Nr.of supports= 2 for each object A --> so I have to do "math" to compute the total of them...but the main problem is the following: suppose that I want to show object A in a schedule and the supports on another schedule (for example I need to order the object A that is a "lighting fixture" from a supplier and the supports that are "generic model" to another supplier) with the parameter you suggested me it is not possible to count them as a separate instance. Am I wrong?

hi @Anonymous you should have 2 parameters as I've posted earlier.

 

1. "Support Type" as a strings/text where you will fill in either "Steel or Plastic"

2. "Nr of Support" as an integer so you could count it in the schedule.

@lumbera_darwin  thank you very much for the explanation, that is what I was looking for.

I have a family (a filter) that has 3 types of filtration material (sabbia, vetro, fibalon); so I created a series of shared parameters to take into account, in schedules, of the filtration material quantity.

For example: the "sabbia" type filter has "Q.tà sabbia" shared parameter filled, while the "vetro" type filter has "Q.tà vetro" shared parameter filled.

As you can see (screenshot 1) If I have into the project 1 filter of each type I see all the materials, but If I have just one type of filter (screenshot 2), in the schedule I see all the columns, even the ones that I fill just for the "vetro" filter type. And this is normal since in the schedule I've added all the parameters.

So my questions now are the followings:

1) is it possible to automatically hide the columns with 0 value?

2) If not, is it possible to automatically add for example "N/A" instead of 0 value, since it looks confusing with all those 0. But since the shared parameter is an "integer" parameter I'm not able to assign it a "text" with a formula.

Is there a solution to make the schedule clearer for the reader?

Hi @Anonymous ,

 

Does each filter type has only one corresponding filtration material? For example, (1) for Sabbia you will only have sabbia material and not vetro and fibalon? Or (2) is there any instance that for Sabbia type you will have sabbia and vetro material?

 

If the answer is  (1), what I will do is I will create a shared parameter "Filtration Material" where I can fill-in either "Sabbia, Vetro and Fibalon", then another shared parameter for Quantity as an integer or number.

 

Please see image below on how I will show it. Lesser columns, much clearer to understand. 😉

Well, the thing is a little bit more complicated since I have 4 filter families and each family has 3 types of filtration materials, so:

 

1) 10 mc/h filter "A"

2) 14 mc/h filter "B"

3)22 mc/h filter "C"

4) 35 mc/h filted "D"

 

1) could have the following filter materials:

- 100 Kg of sabbia (0,4-0,8 micron)

- or 80 Kg of vetro

- or 100 Kg of fibalon*

 

2) could have the following filter materials:

- 150 Kg of sabbia (0,4-0,8 micron)

- or 120 Kg of vetro

- or 150 Kg of fibalon*

 

3) could have the following filter materials

- 200 Kg of sabbia (0,4-0,8 micron) + 50 Kg of sabbia (1-2 micron)

- or 120 Kg of vetro

- or 250 Kg of fibalon*

 

4) could have the following filter materials

- 360 Kg of sabbia (0,4-0,8 micron) + 90 Kg of sabbia (1-2 micron)

- or 360 Kg of vetro

- or 450 Kg of fibalon*

 

*Please note that only in case the filter material type is "fibalon" I need to add 4 more components (2 "griglia per diffusore filtro a masse" + 2 "racc. incoll passaggio per diffusore filtro a masse  Ø50"(for filter 1) and 2)) or 2 "racc. incoll passaggio per diffusore filtro a masse  Ø63"(for filter 3) and 4)).

 

So the problem is that I could have a mix of those filter into my project, but also just one or more of the same type.

In case I have a mix of them the schedule included all the parameters, even if there could be a lot of 0 is kinda ok; but in case of a project with just one or more filter of the same type I would have to edit the schedule and remove the parameters (columns) showing 0.

And if possible I would like to adopt a schedule template where I do not have to go for each project and customize it, in order to improve the efficiency.

Hi @Anonymous ,

 

Analysing the types of filters you will use, I noticed that Type A and B have the same set of shared parameters, as well as Type C and D.

 

Instead of creating one family for those 4 types, what I will do is create 2 families:

1. Filter Types A&B family

2. Filter Types C&D family

Then add the appropriate shared parameters needed.

I created a sample project and the schedule will look like the image below. The shared parameters not related to the family will not display any value.

 

With regard to removing the columns with 0 or blank value, instead of removing, you could just hide it using the Hide Column Tool/Hidden Field. Of course it is not automated but you have to do it manually per project.

But atleast it's the same schedule template that you've created. The thing is you just hide the unnecessary columns.
