Hi,

 

I'm trying to create a sheet pile using an adaptive component but my problem is it won't align with the spline I created. attached herewith is a sample.

It looks like it's following the spline. Is it rotated? Are you meaning that you want the "flanges" touching the spline line?

I assume he wants the flanges oriented along the spline, such that sheeting could be screwed in to them to construct a wall.

 

I also assume the pile was nested into an adaptive and then made a repeater. Is this correct? Open the pile family and rotate the form there, load it back into the adaptive, and then load the adaptive back into the project again.

He may not even need to do that (e.g. go into the family and make changes). Just change its orientation in this family before he repeats it. Curious though, that he didn't notice that the orientation was incorrect before repeating it.

I built a soldier course brick arch, to put over doors or windows or similar, in the same way. But my simple brick family wasn't oriented along the divided path arch the way I thought it would. Couldn't figure out how to reorient it there. Honestly I didn't try that long. Just did it in the brick family.

It was just a thought. I agree there aren't to many orientation options OOTB. "Flip" the node is one. I think "Rotate" the node might also affect the component's orientation - in some circumstances.  Been awhile since I've worked with repeaters, so not totally sure on this one.

I would create the pile family with two adaptive points.

Toan, how do you space those forms out along the divided path then?

 

Oh wait. Do you make a reference line between the points, and then build the extrusion on that line, such that it stays adjacent to the first point, and then the second point just creates various rotations along the path?

Hi, the spacing of the sheet piles shall be the effective width of the piles e.g. 1.40m

Christian - I don't need any reference line. I just snap two adaptive points to two adjacent points on the divided line host to place the first instance then repeat it. The spacing is set by the divided path, which is the same as width of the sheet pile in this case (but not necessary, if I need a gap in between I can have it as well).

Without being modeled on a line between the two points, how is the condition of both flange edges being tangent to the divided path maintained?

 

If you've modeled on the XY plane of the first point only, then the pile is going to locate only one edge on the curved path, and be tangent to the path there, meaning it's opposite edge will be off the path (for a curved path).

 

Or did you host an edge on EACH of the two points and then create the form between them?

See screencast.  I created two adaptive points for the exact reason of keeping the family tangent to the path.

Wow. That seemed unexpectedly easy. I guess when you do the points AFTER the shape, they auto-host themselves TO the corners of the shape? I wasn't expecting that behavior.
