A simple issue regarding exporting from revit to cad

Now, when i export revit to dwg, the exported CAD file is like shown in att. screen shots, the scale is in inch i have to reset it to metric, the line-type-style is set to default i have to make ot 0.001 because we use meteres not mm and other several issues.

i tried to change the cad template file to what i want, but revit never choose the template i modified, and i don't know what template it's using.

i also tried to export with other standards like british ot iso .. but all are the same..

i need to know in order to save time editing all the exported cad files.

anybody can help ??

The second screenshoot you attached is showing the annotation scale. That hasn't got anything to do with the scale the drawing was drawn.

For best practice you will always use 1:1 and in AutoCAD just change the scale of the viewports present in the layouts (sheets)

I interrogated your project in Revit and the file units are mm. Once that is exported into AutoCAD the DWG file will be mm too unless you change the Units before exporting (see attached).

IMHO, as long your units are consistent (mm in Revit and mm in AutoCAD), then you can manipulate the presentation of views in AutoCAD.

when u are about to open a new CAD drawing, u have to choose one of those templates, each one of them has it's settings, regarding scale list of each one, some of them are in metric and some are in inches, so i assume and i'm quiet sure that revit is choosing a same template when export a file to CAD i just need to know where is it to make some modification to it.

Just open the file exported from Revit and the units will be fine. I don't understand the comparison, the template is for people, Revit doesn't use a template, only translate the information into 2D lines and uses the same scale coming from Revit. Look at the image attached,

When you click the botton highligted in yellow, the dialogue box on the right appear, Look at the tab marked as '2'; there you have the units for the drawings to export.

Dear friend. Again.. I'm not talking about the file units i know that revit adjusts it. I'm talking about another settings in the cad file which is presented by the cad template. Such as the scale list, line type scale and point style etc

Ignore the list of scales that you see.  I understand it causes confusion but you should not change it to anything but 1:1.  LTSCALE should be 1, MSLTSCALE should be 1, PSLTSCALE should be 1.  Don't change any of these settings and your DWGS should look the same as Revit drawings in regards to line type scale.

It is very hard to explain it to you because you keep mixing up AutoCAD templates in your thought.  Again, AutoCAD templates has absolutely nothing to do with DWGs exported from Revit.  Nothing.

ToanDN is absolutely right. As long as you keep the settings consistent in revit (units in the project and units in the settings to export) the CAD export will be fine. Messing with scale will give you headaches and you will achieve nothing from it.

autocad metric units are mm , but we use meters not mm so, i need to change the linetype scale to 0.001 .

and if u think of it in another way, revit and autocad are both programs which serve our desires , we just need to understand there standards .

all i need to understand and what i'm searching for is , what audtocad file template does revit choose to put his exported file based on.
in another words, now, i noted that the exported cad file has some features, like i said before, the scale list, linetype scale, point format style and other features, if anybody knows autocad well enough then u know that when u start a new cad dwg u must select a template to start from, and there is the a default template if u'll start the program from zero.

logically, revit is having and autocad template some where and he uses it to establish a new cad file, and then changes the unit of the file and other features based on ur export settings.

i hope that i've explained that issue well enough

Draw your project as meter in Revit and choose export to DWG as meter.

ok then tell me why the exported file (scale list) is in inch not metric? why not inverse? while the 2 options are exist ?? on which criteria ?

Please attach the current Revit file so we can have a go and see the issue.

But, please ignore that list of scales on the bottom right of the AutoCAD screen, that's for annotation, it's irrelevant for the matter we are talking about.

If your Revit project units are mm, and export as mts, it will be mts. in CAD.

BTW, I just exported a cad file from a copy of your project (from other forum). It displays scale factor in inches for annotation, BUT the units are correct, they are metric. Just check the dimensions and use the scale of your Viewports to show elements in mm, cm, mt or whatever you want.

Best practice is to draw 1:1 and play with dims and scale in viewports. Simples!

I have the same issue I want a cad file exported from Revit to show the correct metric scale not imperial. I know the drawing is in metric but the scale list is not. Did you ever resolve this?

Hi,

Revit isn't actually drawn in units like AutoCAD does, but it's elements are actual "World" size.

Revit just show/manipulates elements based on the default units set.

For exports to DWG set the correct desired output unit format, Revit adjust it's export on this.

And for visual export settings (Bylayer, keep overrides etc) see below and select the layer option needed.
