3rd party vendor families missing render image

I was wondering if anyone had this issue as well....

Lately I've been downloading a few different families from 3rd party vendors - example Roof assemblies.

Unfortunately the material image is missing therefore the rendering does not

show the material at all. This happened with several vendors. Anybody encountered this problem and has a solution?

Thanks!Image.jpg

...all the time, dude! The only solution is to rebuild it the best you can. There's no magic wand remedy. Sorry.

...all's not lost, @Anonymous; maybe someone can share. What material are you looking for specifically? This is why you belong to the  BEST Revit community forum on the planet! (hint: flattery gets a whole lot of assistance. Smiley Wink)

Well,@barthbradley I was looking for a standard metal seam roof assembly and found plenty...except...no images for rendering and even in section view it looked pretty flat. I'm new to this community...it's just odd that a vendor would post his product, show a pic of a rendered image product but not supply anything that would help us create it. Smiley Frustrated

I'm not sure what you expect for a section view, which is typically a cross-section hatch pattern (at least for us it is). But, with regards to a surface rendering image; metal seems pretty simplistic, as it really doesn't have much of a texture or pattern to it. Perhaps if you point us to the actual manufacturer BIM content that you are downloading, we could better understand and assist you.

...in fact, just post the link Smiley Wink

When you cut a section you're supposed to the material outline/profile but not a flat surface...of course you have to cut your section correctly.

Here's couple of different vendors and links.

Sorry, @Anonymous, I'm not following your tutelage on sections, but besides that, I'm not following what you are thinking you are missing from these downloads. They come with no Appearance, Thermal or Physical properties. The Manufacturer hasn't built in any whatsoever. There is nothing but a material name. What is the problem?

Sorry for late reply...here's a few pictures of what I mean with section cut and how it shows the material - the seam metal roof. That's my issue...the metal roof that's usually associated with the the revit family when you downloaded is not matching their preview pic of the file - see the 2nd 3rd picture. Does it make sense now?

Yes, that's what I thought you meant at the onset: which is that you are missing the image, which happens from time to time. Sometimes you can find those images on the manufacturer's website. Other times, you'll need to locate a suitable image on your own. Typically, I Google the product's name and look through the Images that Google finds. That's 99% effective for me. With the colored photo image, you can use Photoshop to create your black & white Bumps or Reliefs from it. It's not difficult. I'll see if I can find a tutorial for you and post it later.

...in lieu of creating images yourself, just use one of the OOTB images. Even easier!

Out of the box...or out of google..yeah that could work. Smiley Surprised
