Hello,

How can I change material (for example wood) of 3d-model, if I imported it from AutoCAD or 3dMAX?

Thank you 😃

Hello @mishkt

Various methods are applicable depending on how you imported/inserted the CAD (Link/Straight Import/into a family...); layers imported (all or black&white...).

  1. one method: is to apply material using paint tool (messy but works)
  2. Another method: is to apply material to the CAD block or geometry, where the elements of the block or extrusion (in the CAD) are on relevant layers, by assigning a material to each relevant layer in Object Styles...To do so:
    • Materials under Manage > Objects Styles > Imported Objects.
    • Look for the name of the CAD file and expand (so you'll be able to see its layers.)
    • Here you should be able to
      1. Either remove layers' default material assignment (if required) by clicking the "..." button and setting to No Material.
      2. OR assign the desired/dofferent material
      3. In the event where the CAD geometry which you imported is a block, you will need to override the layers inside the block and not the parent layer which the block is on.  ie: if the block has Cube1 on layer 1 and Cube2 on layer 2 ...etc and the block is on layer 0; you will need to apply the material to each cube's layer and not  layer 0.
