I am not sure you can actually export such complex geometries in Revit.

You might try to export individually each object. This 3ds Max script might be useful http://josbalcaen.com/scripts/max/batch-exportimport/

Can you import 3ds max object in DWG ( Autocad )

and then use DWG import in Revit.

DWG can be exploded or east to work out layers switching off and on etc

give it a go..

Cheers!

Hi @FarhanUddinShaikh - Not going to happen. You can't bring in a MAX file directly to Revit, and a DWG file when exploded, will turn into a free form object with a bunch of grips and NOT separate parts. It's weird and freaky)

Some tips -

Plan A - Split up your 3DS Max geometry into layers. Export to DWG. Insert into Revit, unpin. Go into VG>>Imported Object - you will see the layers. You can control the visibility of the layers from there.

Plan B -  Divide and rule. Split up the 3DS Max geometry into multiple files and insert

Thank You so much for your reply but it can easily be separated by diving into parts (command), first select object then just click divide into parts, there nothing with to do with full explode option.
Thanks 🙂

Are you sure? Which version of Revit are you talking about? This is all that I see when I create a generic model family in 2018-

To complete the process (and for Parts to work) the generic model family will need to be inserted into a project.....NOW it's clear! However, to add insult to injury, the Parts command may decline to work upon the MAX object.

I'd say it totally depends on how the geometry is constructed. It works with simple volumes.

You modeled in place - another way of approaching the problem....

Very simplest,

Make object on 3ds max

export to cad

explode all drawing

make block of each object

import to revit

Thanks 🙂
