Hello, 

I am attempting to develop 3D typical details for our company that can be used on many projects. 

I've developed a model and linked 3D views onto drafting views and sheets. 

However, when I open up a project and i try to Insert > Insert From File > Inserts Views From File, the pages with the 3D views are not available and don't even show up to be 'checked'. 

So, to get around this, I've had to make .jpg images of the 3D view, and then imported the .jpg into the typical detail.  This technically works, but it's very messy. 

Is there a better way?

Is there a way to freeze a 3D view and make it a 2D image (this still isn't ideal, but it's better and easier to work with than a .jpg). 

Any help is appreciated,

Why not Export 3D on Sheet to ACAD and then back into Revit Drafting View?  That would do it.

It would help for you to describe what a 3D typical detail entails for your company. Maybe upload an example (if not your company, a similar type of drawing found online).

For example:

1. Revit detail view is a 2d representation of the 3D elements in your project;
2. Revit drafting view is a purely 2D blank canvas on which details can be drawn with 2d elements and annotations;
3. Revit 3D view is a 3D representation (orthographic or perspective) of the 3D elements in your project which can be locked in position and annotated.

Technically, Revit allows you to place 3D views, detail views and drafting views on sheets but won't let you "link" a 3d view onto a drafting view.

So, to get around this, I've had to make .jpg images of the 3D view, and then imported the .jpg into the typical detail.  This technically works, but it's very messy. 

If the details in question do not have to be adapted for use in each project, creating a static view could be achieved by creating flattened 3D to 2D drawing elements that can then be inserted into 2d revit drafting views which are easily imported into a project on demand. This could be done with a combination of post processing the images by exporting to DWG and re-drafting over a that linked file.

But if each project require the typical 3D details to be modified and updated with respect to the model geometry, that would require a different approach.
