More information needed. What are on the sheets? Have you run an Audit?

Hello,

I get the same issue from 2019 version of Revit. The I export to DWG in 2017 or 2018 the same file no problem. But in Revit 2019 export is not working normally. Then I open the file and make Audit, delete all the %temp% and ect. For first exporting to DWG it works but then I try to do it one more time it get stuck gives the same message like in the example from ccowie. After this it begins to export 0 zero DWG files and no error message is given.

2018-11-16_19-15-23.jpg

All the files became read-only and I can't delete or change files till Revit is running. Some how they are locked to the running Revit program. After I close Revit I can delete these files. The same problem is with different files. Export to DWG works in Revit  2017 and 2018 but it is not working on 2019 version. So I think it is related to the Revit  2019.

In my PC I have space.

This is a user forum with users helping users....and so far you haven't answered anyone's questions, including the rep from Autodesk.

What happens if you export just that one view by itself?  Try clearing out your temp files and try again.

Looks like invalid file name character situation to me. When exporting the name of views and sheets must use valid characters because those are getting used to create the exported file(s).

No this is not the problem. If I use 2017 or 2018 Revit it works and first time I have this DWG export problem in 2019 version. I work with Revit for 10 years I am not new user in this field.

I think I found the reason for this problem. It is new Revit 2019 tools STEEL. If you you use this tool in the model it will give you problems for exporting DWG. I tried it on Autodesk example Structure file: and https://autode.sk/2TmTZ1j If you try to view different views 2D and 3D and after this manipulation you try to export sheets in DWG for several times you will get export problem, files will not export or they will be exported in zero size.

I’m having the same issues with exporting out sheets to dwgs. Tried various ways to get them exported for my subs to use and same issues. Tried batch export, single sheet export, export to 2010, export to 2018... all with the same end results: an error message stating you can’t,  and like most revit errors, no explanation why you can’t; or when it does export, the file is trash. Very frustrating because there is nothing you can do, can’t save it back to 2018, just stuck with no answers. Autodesk needs to fix this quickly because this is a very big problem that can cost a company additional manhours in CADDing a version in AutoCAD. Maybe I should send you the bills.. 😡😡

Hi @Edgaras.BIM.old and @ccowie

Can you please post a journal and a screencast of what you are experiencing?

I have to see your data-set for further diagnosis Revit - Collecting and sending diagnostic data to Autodesk Technical Support

I can send you a private upload folder if you'd prefer.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Are you using Revit Server by chance?  I found I have to detach from the Revit Server sometimes just to export...else I may get 25% of my exports accomplished.

We are not using Revit Server. We have Revit loaded on two desktop computers in our office and both computers run into the same export to cad problem. Revit seems to get hung up on the export and we need to restart Revit and or re-boot our computer to get out of the hang up. We suspect some sort of add on such as kekynote manager might be causing a conflict. DXF seems to work ok but not DWG.

Are you exporting to a network location or on your computer?  How much file space do you have available on your workstations for temp swap?

Oh, if you have sheets with images, export those separate from the rest.

Another issue that has come up is if you have images inserted in your titleblock.  If that is the case, try loading the image into an annotation family then load into the titleblock.

I just posted two emails that includes step by step screen shots, one email screen shots that successfully exported from revit to dwg and a second email that ran into the export problem. I export to DXF and then open in autocad and then save as DWG as a work around. Revit needs to fix this

No I have a stand-alone license and all files are stored locally until I connect & sync to our server.

My projects are similar to the ones I’ve created in 2018. If I hadn’t experience this problem when exporting out in 2018 why should I look to change the things I do in 2019? I’ve even tried to use a model created in the 2018 version, which exported out with no errors in 2018 but will not in 2019.

I think there is a problem about IFC files. My project has changed after i import 3 ifc models to my project. Before that i could correctly export dwg and it was lasting like 10-15 seconds but now it exports suddenly 4 0 kb file 1 for project 3 for IFC files. I have to solve this problem really quick because my deadline is sooo close 😞

I have solved my own problem. It wasn't about IFC files. It was about "temporary hide". I realised if I reboot my computer and open revit directly i can export my plan views but when it comes to sections i had to hide a topography that not working well so it appears when i hide that topography revit's brain stopped and also stopped exporting dwg files even my plan views that i could export 2 min before. So you could try reboot your computer and directly open revit then export views without "temporary hide". It works on me!
