Split tool

I need to split the followings elements (walls, slabs, linear footings and beams) using a reference plane as the cutting edge.

In Revit, the walls, footings and beams can be split using the Split Tool, and the slabs can be resized.

Is this possible via the API?  (I am using Revit Structure 2012).

I did figure out a way to split my floors... next up are the beams.

Just as a follow-up, in case anyone is interested, I was able to "split" the floors, beams and walls by creating new instances at the split point, and then deleting the old instance.
