RTFM and using the search function

Hi Autodesk,

please make a sticky post on the top of the forum.

Topic may be "How to use the RevitAPI.chm" or "Tutorial for using the search function".

Alternatively, you could insert an intermediate step for those who are about to create a new post.

Before doing so, please ask something like "Did you use the search function ?" - Yes/No

If the user says yes, then ask him "Really ?" before continuing 😉

Another suggestion: what about a tag cloud, similar to Jeremy's TBC blog ?

I think it would help users to find the best matching topic.

There are so many requests which are unnecessary, in fact.

If only the users would have spent a minute for investigation before posting...

Dear Revitalizer,

Thank you for the suggestion.

More than often, we ourselves are finding information by search.  (Believe or not, I sometimes find my own post 🙂

I did not think of tag so much. But it's a good suggestion.  It's also a good idea to keep a list of references for people who are relatively, new.

Let me discuss this with the team. Sounds relevant to other forum as well.

Dear Revitalizer,

Thank you for the very good suggestion!

Looking forward to the discussion on this.

It will probably take some (or a neverending sequence of) iterations to get this right.

Some poeple are extremely resistant to helping themselves  🙂

Cheers, Jeremy

I definitely applaud the ADN team for doing everything they can help out, but another option would be for Autodesk to put some resources into creating some decent documentation.

Dear Jeff,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I assure you that we are doing what we can.

Thank you for also providing answers in your own forum.

I as unable to search it, though, not being logged in.

Regarding the original question raised by Revitalizer, I think we should definitely publsih instructions describing best practices somewhere.

Then we could simply point to that in a one-liner when new issues are raised with insufficient prior research.

Cheers,

Jeremy
