Revit Technological Requirements

Hi. I want to inquire on this forum what kind of computer requirements I should have for an application like Revit. My school says I should be using a laptop with the latest generation parts, which, frankly, is ridiculous. Does Revit work on Mac? How well? Would I be able to get away with a laptop with something in the realm of a 9th gen i5 and a 1080?

I would avoid Mac if you want to pursue learning Revit. As for specs, Revit hasn't changed much in the last decade. Anything that was good for Revit 7 years ago is still good for Revit.

Sorry don't have any laptops to provide. Here is a desktop to compare if you have to have a laptop. This is Dell Precision 3620 workstation used for Revit and is cheap on ebay link. It is the minimum I would recommend and will be fine for Revit. Minimum specs 3.4 Ghz processor; 16GB memory; Gen 3 NVME or SATA SSD hard drive; Graphics AMD Firepro W5100.

  • If you already have some sort of laptop and the classrooms have good internet you may be able to remote back into a desktop located in your home and use Revit remotely as a lot of us have during Covid. Chrome remote desktop is a chrome extension that handles the remote connection as one example.

Hi @williamck,

Here are the system requirements for Revit 2023

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-req...

Currently Revit is not supported in Mac but from a personal perspective you can try to run it using a virtual machine.
