PlanarFace with zero edges?

Occaisionaly when i retrieve a planar face from a wall using a stable reference string the face returned doesn't contain any edges. This doesnt seem right to me. Does anyone have any insight on why this would occur. Would an element fully enclosed within another element that is also joined to it cause this?
