Performance for linked IFC files

We are developing a software used by interior designers. We have a function to export to IFC 2x3 so that the interior designers can send their design to the architects who typically use Revit.

They get it into Revit by using the "Link IFC". The designs can be pretty large 10000+ objects. And once imported Revit gets laggy (FPS 15-20).

IFC allows you to describe geometry in many different ways. We have tried exporting in different ways to IFC (IfcFaceBasedSurfaceModel, IFCCIRCLEHOLLOWPROFILEDEF), but we didnt see any difference in performance.

So we wonder if you have any recommendations on what IFC elements to use to get the optimal performance in Revit?

Hi @Anonymous ,

IFC2X3 lacks some features of IFC4.

I would recommend trying to export your project in both IFC2X3 and IFC4 and find out which one gives you better performance.
