Open REVIT from web-based application

Is it possible to open REVIT from a web-based application? I have a web-based CAFM application and my client wants from this application to open REVIT: example, selecting an asset within this CAFM system and through that selection opening REVIT (with some sort of "hyperlink") with that asset selected and zoomed in.

In theory you can certainly hack anything you want.

In practice, the task you describe may possibly be more effectively handled using Autodesk Forge:

I suggest that you explore these two alternatives in more depth and define your exact requirements in more detail before we discuss this any further.

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for your reply.

Our Client doesn't allow for any cloud application system - so using Autodesk Forge wouldn't be a possibility right?

The external App is web-based but restricted to the Client's network.

We are using the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCad & Revit to integrate the 2 systems, but because we cannot find a way to "hyperlink" REVIT with ARCHIBUS we are using copy&paste of the assets' unique ID to locate specific assets within the BIM model.

No cloud --> no Forge -- correct.

In that case, several ideas for driving Revit on the desktop from outside via an external event are listed here by the Building Coder:

In any case, you must have Revit running somewhere and an add-in loaded and active in order to be able to communicate with Revit from outside.
