Hi All,

What does everyone use or can recommend using to create their ribbon icons?

I have seen the Autodesk guidelines, but keen to get any tips and tricks that will make it more streamlined.

Thanks,

Brent

I don't know if there is a best software. I guess that is always up for interpretation. I use Inkscape since it can intake any raster image and has easy layer control. Also it provides a panel for Icon Preview. So as you are creating your beautiful creation, it shows you what it will look like at different resolutions.

The point I would make with icons is not to spend a lot of time on them. As a designer that codes, you always want your creation to look magnificent. But in this instance, time should be spent on code, because no one will spend time looking at the icons, nor judging them. They are simply a means to an end.

I have really good luck with Illustrator if you have it available. I use a 100pt x 100pt template and it works very well. Honestly thought you could even use paint if you want and there are several online converters for down sampling if needed.

Yes, Illustrator is best for Good Quality Icons by pixel art and 32x32 Size Pixel art can do many things. before I used GIMP for that but it is not much Quality for the icons. if you face the size of the icon is not fit the ribbon bar please convert it to ICO icon format.

It may not work for you but have you looked at the website icons8 by any chance? They have a huge variety, you can do searches and even a few options to customise what you choose. The free plan will give you plenty.
