How can I import a rvt file into my Revit Project?

Hi!

Is there a method for import a .rvt file into my Revit project (through Revit API and no with copy and paste!)?

Currently I have seen only method to import a rfa or rte file, never rvt file.

I would like to avoid to open file (.rvt), select all element, then copy and paste in my Revit Project and close the first one rvt file.

Thanks in advanced!

Hello Elim,

Been wanting to do this as well for quite a while now myself and just figured out a work around that I got to work.

It is a "copy n paste" procedure, but should come in "in place" without having to move and elevate the objects.

(including floors and walls).  I used this to import a block with steel, floors, and walls into existing project hoping it would fall into place.

And it did.

1)   (This is critical in lining up the objects)

You MUST have both projects (files) in the same "Shared Site Coordinate System".

i.e. The Project Point and the Survey Point must match in both projects.

(This has been another big headache for me and I still have issues with

getting this to work at times.)

2)   Make sure you have matching (same elevations) "Level" plans between both projects.

They don't need to be "named" the same but they need to have the same elevations.

You will be copying from and pasting into these 2 plans.

3)   Make sure the plans "View Range" settings (all 3) are set to "Unlimited" and "Cut Plane" is set high enough

to enclude all objects you want to go over.

4)   Select your objects in one plan (project) and use the "Copy to Clipboard" option.

5)   Switch to the other plan (project) and use the "Paste / Aligned to Current View" option.

If the "Aligned to the Same Place" option is available...use it, but I don't think this will be available.

      This should do it.

I did get a "Duplicates Types" message...I ignored it and hit OK.

You will also probably get the "Beams are slighty off axis" message as well.

Proceed at your own risk.

Does the "Bind" functionality maintain the element UniqueId'?
