Distinguishing beams with openings

Hi folks,

I have to open holes in our structural beams due to the mechanical needs. (I'm using the by face method to open holes)

As there are lots of beams in the project and we would like to keep track of the beams that has an opening.

So we would like to create a quantity list where it shows the name of the beam, size etc. and if the beam has an opening.

To do so, what can you suggest, Could there be a method from API to distinguish beams with holes? Or we have to create a shared parameter and do it manually?

What would be the best method to create such list?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous,

I would retrieve all the openings with an element collector filtering for Openings, and then iterate through them and check whether their opening.Host property returns a beam element. If so, add that beam to a collection (if not already added). Let me know if this worked.

Hi

I personally have a face based Family which is Void. and I insert this family at the clashing points. and I manipulate the width and height from the Pipe/Duct Whatever MEP element.

The reason I am using this method.

- You can not schedule openings/Shafts

- as you said very easy to track

I hope this idea helps.
