DirectContext3D does not work in Family Document.
Good question. Have you tried it out yourself? That might quickly answer the question. Anyway, in case you prefer to wait, my colleague Naveen also asked the development team for you.

The Engineering team did a quick test.
It looks like the family views did not show the graphics.
The Engineering team also added they do not remember the reason why DirectContext3D seems to be shut off in family editor.
