Custom Button Icons

Hi!

I'm in the makings of setting up my own split button and the cherry on top would be some nice icons. I have tried various solutions but not managed to reach the sharpness and level of quality like the existing icons in Revit, does anyone know how to get that result?

Have you checked the colour depth of those images and pixels per inch? I usually use photoshop to check those under "Image" > "Size of image".

It did happen to my that a 16 bit colour depth display the icon smaller.

I got a 32bit dept, I guess I just have made the icons poorly? I found an Autodesk Icon Guideline which I will try to make sense of.

What I tend to do is create a larger image perhaps 150x150 pixels in a vector format. I then save directly from this into the two smaller raster format sizes required (32 and 16 at 96 dpi).

You find that if you resize a raster format you get such a bad result in terms of image blur. There is also a lot of colour averaging that takes place during resizing a bitmap (leading to grey colours creeping in).

I use an old version of Expression Design, no longer supported by Microsoft but I believe someone has made it available elsewhere.

The good thing about Expression Design is that you can copy to clipboard in xaml (paths etc.), which means you can draw features of WPF controls etc.

Not sure why they discontinued it, they had Blend but to my mind that was just VS with a different UI.
