Apply insulation to nested pipe flanges

1. The nested flanges, as a void or normal extrusion, does not apply insulation if it does not have a connector.
2. Once you add the insulation this behaviour is present.
Insulation does not maintain shape?!
3. If it insulation maintains shape and I can replace geometry with nested Flange to bill for both flange and insulation for the strainer.
4. If I could get the insulation type of host family to programmatically assign it to my ".S&P_insulation_type" shared parameter in nested flange I could schedule and export to dwfx will show .S&P_insulation_type populated when the nested flange is selected in Design Review or Navisworks.
5. Then it does not have to physically assign to Nested part and avoid unexpected insulation or lining behaviour. Or is there a solution to it.

Dear Marius Van Wyk,

Please accept our sincerer apology for the delay! We had a backlog in the queue.

I played with your attached example model, it looks like this question is related to family, this is not Revit API programming?

If this is related to Revit API programming, can you provide a reproducible case for it?

In order to explore this matter further, we will need to provide a minimal reproducible case for the development team to analyse in depth.

In order to understand exactly what you mean and be able to research possible reasons for the discrepancy between the observed and expected behaviour, they require:
· A short exact description of what you are trying to achieve.
· The behavior you observe versus what you expect, and why this is a problem.
· A complete yet minimal Revit sample model to run a test in.
· A complete yet minimal macro embedded in the sample model or Visual Studio solution with add-in manifest that can be compiled, loaded, run and debugged with a single click to analyse its behavior live in the sample model.
· Detailed step-by-step instructions for reproducing the issue, e.g. which element to pick, what command to launch etc.

1. The random block of insulation is applied to the nested part in no way is correct and should hold form it is applied to      Round, rectangular....! (need the answer from Autodesk)

2. Why does the nested part have to have a connector present for the Revit built-in parameters for duct and pipe insulation to actually work on the nested part? If a connector is not present you can select and apply but it does not apply it. (need the answer from Autodesk).

3. My API question is there a way to use my shared or even a project parameter, let's call it S&P Insulation Type through coding to find the insulation already applied to the host duct fitting pr pipe fitting family same will be required for a duct accessory or pipe accessory family that has insulation applied.

4. Part of my problem is the way insulation is applied, you have to select the items to apply insulation. so if your view not set to wireframe and you select each nested part and then apply same insulation as on host. You are kind of out of luck (it very tedious).

5. Therefore I want to find all insulated elements, then know if it has a nested part present and if present what is its host insulation, then apply that information to nested part either the built-in Revit insulation type parameter or to my parameter created.

6. If it applies the insulation on builtin Revit insulation (I DO NOT WANT THE BLOBS)

7. as long as it tells me its insulated I don't care if it looks insulated, because I cannot live with a round item having an odd out of size so-called insulation floating in my views??

Dear Marius Van Wyk,

Please accept our sincerer apology for the delay! We had a backlog in the queue.

I submitted the wish list item CF-4903 [Apply insulation to nested pipe flanges - case 14789976] on your behalf for the functionality you suggest, as this issue requires exploration and possibly a modification to our software. Please make a note of this number for future reference.

You are welcome to request an update on the status of this issue or to provide us with additional information at any time quoting this wish list item number.

This issue is important to me. What can I do to help?

This issue needs to be assessed by our engineering team, and prioritized against all of the other change requests that are outstanding. As a result any information that you can provide to influence this assessment will help. Please provide the following where possible:
• Impact on your application and/or your development.
• The number of users affected.
• The potential revenue impact to you.
• The potential revenue impact to Autodesk.
• Realistic timescale over which a fix would help you.
• In the case of a request for a new feature or a feature enhancement, please also provide detailed Use Cases for the workflows that this change would address.
This information is extremely important. Our engineering team have limited resources, and so must focus their efforts on the highest impact Change Requests. We do understand that this will cause you delays and affect your development planning, and we appreciate your cooperation and patience.

I looked in my profile for my support requests and cannot find the case number: case 14789976.

This is a CRITICAL issue for us. It does not just affect Piping it is so for ducting also.

1. We need to be able to insulate and get areas and what is insulated on the host family and the nested family. On a large project, you are talking about large amounts of money because of inaccuracy in BoQ being measured from model elements.

2. We also need to apply insulation to Mechanical equipment. Even if I change it to Duct or Pipe accessories to achieve this, the Insulation is a large graphical rectangular blob.

3. How do we achieve applying insulation that contours with geometry or at least alter and limit the gigantic blob?

4. How do we achieve the same on an even worse blob that results in Nested parts only after a connector is added? and you apply insulation.

5. Need insulation to be able to be added to the nested part without connectors present.

6. Need to be able to select parent and in doing so automatically selects its nested parts, then you should be able to filter them out. after the selection. So initially if you insulate it all is insulated.

Please inform me about the case progress and it should be added to my "View my support Cases"
