Ground Surface

Ground Surface

A routine for recognizing the lowest points elevationwise on a scan to automatically extract a base "BARE-EARTH"  model from terrestrial data, similar to a last return LAS on LIDAR files.

Also a routine to export LAS files from RECAP,

Semi-Auto Classification of data -(i.e. High Vegetation, Ground Points, Structure surface, etc

You might look at Infraworks - it will use your Recap project to extract the ground points and outputs a .las and create a surface, and makes some efforts to classify vertical objects.

Why I have to go to yet another Autodesk module is beyond me. This is a very simple task in it's most basic form. This is what's so frustrating about the new Autodesk model. Too many separate pieces. Put it in recap. Infraworks-in a mode that is really functional requires the Pro purchased option,I know because we've tried the Infraworks Lite that we have with our subscription. Why not give your end-users what they need to function efficiently.
This request has NOT BEEN IMPLIMENTED. Not within RECAP 360

I agree, not implemented either. Switching between multiple programs just to work with a native point cloud file is not practical.

We're experimenting with a lesser know product for point clouds known as QT Modeler. Has a very large tool pallet for ground surfaces.
Came out of John Hopkins applied physics lab. You should check it out.
It's half the cost of most cloud software.

Has applicable tools for actual feature extraction from point clouds that mimics common field routines, this making the move to"virtual surveying" less painful and more seamless for a party chief.

Bentley makes a better product for use with point clouds.

I've heard that. However no one is an experienced Bentley user. Do you know what the cost would be for the MINIMUM base product needed to run the Bentley cloud component?

The base model is pretty basic, but the one you would need is about $7000. It's a pretty steep price!!

As they ALL are. The cheapest one I have found that works fairly well for "Virtual surveying that is similar to a None CAD person surveying in the field is from QT modeler (John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.)
It is aimed mainly at Military personnel ,though, and we are working with them to make it a little more user friendly for Surveyors

You still need to get the proprietary scanner data format converted to something that can be read by the software though, and that is where the scanner manufacturers have you!
I'm waiting to see the price on the new Leica Register 360 online software
