Creating a Topographic Surface in Revit

It would be nice if we could more easily create an accurate topographic surface in Revit from a linked ReCAP file. Even if it just being able to export a TXT or CSV file from ReCAP of a scan region or an edited cloud. I find it is much easier to manipulate and edit the point cloud in ReCAP than some other native registration softwares.

Dear Tabodor,

You can do this quite easily:

1. Crop your scan data in Recap until you have only the data you want to turn into topography i.e. ground only.

2. Export from Recap as a PTS or E57 file.

3. Import into the very useful program CloudCompare. Sub-sample your point cloud so you have a reasonable density of points i.e. maybe one data point per metre, if you want really accurate topography.

4. Save your point cloud as a comma-delimited CSV file as required by Autodesk Revit.

5. Then, use the Toposurface tool in Revit to automatically create topography from your CSV file.

Cheers,

Jay Stocker
