Add the ability to change the default units when launching a new Recap Project

It would be great to add a menu when creating a new project to be able to specify the import units.  As it stands right now when importing a .pts file from Cyclone(exported in US ft), Recap still labels the coords as meters even thought the RECAP file initially was set to US ft.  Then when referencing into Civil 3D the Recap file does not need to be scaled from meters to feet.  The fact this issue has not been corrected since the beginning of Recap is mind boggling.

ReCap does have the ability to set the unit of any text input file.  Click the 'Text Settings' tab at the top of the import screen after you add the file.  There's an option to change it the unit and/or scale.

This may be a function of the .pts not exporting correctly, and this post maybe in the wrong forum.  Although I have made sure the export is set to US feet.

It is very concerning that when importing that Recap reads the .pts file wrong.  Set the export units to US feet when exporting from Leica Cyclone, Recap seems to still read the .pts file as meters and Recap tries to convert from meters to feet which is incorrect.  The only way I can get it to work correctly on the back end(Back end meaning when referencing into Civil3D) is if I set the .pts import units to meters.  The bad part about it is that the coords are the correct values but it reads as meters not feet.   Using this method when referencing the .RCP into Civil3D the point cloud is in the correct location.

It's been a while since I've dealt with "raw" pts files... from memory they only contain coordinates along with some point information.  I don't recall there being any means of storing what units are used inside the file.

Darryn, I continually run into this same issue. When importing a project which was exported out of Faro Scene as an RCP project file, ReCap Pro automatically defaults units to meters, even when the Faro Scene file is set to feet and export in feet. I set the units in ReCap to feet, but it doesn't matter. when I import meshes generated from ReCap Pro into 3DS Max, I always need to check the convert box, and set the model units to Meters in order for the model to correctly import as feet. I just wish I could set the default units myself.

iDosch,

Yes, that is exactly what I run into.  It's is very annoying and can cause a lot of confusion.

iDosch, it's the same exact issue for me. Has anybody solved this yet?
